The Story

He was a criminal defense attorney whose career was in overdrive. And he walked away.

Why???

Because what he really wanted to do…
was talk about baseball.

Yeah, this is a baseball movie but it’s more than that. It’s about how listening, caring and doing the right thing are still alive and well.

Marty Lurie’s story is a worthy film all by itself, but the “tapestry” of this film also includes the stories of a diverse group whose lives have been enriched by being connected with Marty.

  • The film traces Marty's journey from Brooklyn to Miami, through the improbable beginnings of his legal career, to his early days in San Francisco in the wild and woolly 1970’s. Eventually, he became one of the most sought-after criminal defense lawyers in northern California, handling high profile cases. Then, at the height of his career, he quit.

  • From a five-watt high school radio station to the Oakland A’s to his fifteen-years with the San Francisco Giants, Marty has evolved from a total outsider to the consummate insider.

But Baseball Mensch is about more than baseball because Marty Lurie is about more than baseball.  His support of the restorative justice movement, mentorship of the young, and the power of baseball history are all revealed in the movie.

Marty says, “Baseball is a metaphor for life.”  He also says, “Baseball makes us happy; it’s just that simple.”  Entertaining, touching, laugh out loud funny, and deeply human, Baseball Mensch:  The Marty Lurie Story will show why all of these things are true.
